Everything you need to know before turning your child into the hero of their own story.
Yes — that's the whole point. We analyze the photos you upload to extract your child's actual face shape, skin tone, hair color and texture, and distinct features. Those details are preserved throughout every illustration in the book, rendered in a warm watercolor storybook style.
This is not a name swap or an avatar selector. The character in the book is recognizably, unmistakably your child. Parents consistently tell us their kids recognize themselves on the first page.
You get 3 free regenerations before placing your order. If the first illustration doesn't nail it, you can add text-based refinements — "make her hair curlier," "his eyes are more green than blue" — and we'll regenerate.
You'll always preview the character and a sample story page before you're asked to pay. You only pay when you're happy with what you see.
Yes. You'll see a character preview and a story preview before you ever reach checkout. Nothing is printed or charged until you approve what you've seen.

Yes. We fulfill globally through Gelato, which has print partners in over 30 countries. Your book is printed close to where you live, which keeps shipping fast and reduces transit costs.
International delivery typically adds 3–5 business days depending on your region. Exact shipping time is shown at checkout before you pay.
Yes, and additional copies are discounted. Once you've built the book, adding a second or third copy (same book, different address — for grandparents, for example) is significantly cheaper than the original.
You can set the quantity at checkout.
We offer a money-back guarantee if the likeness doesn't meet your expectations when the book arrives. Custom printed books can't be restocked, so refunds are evaluated case by case — but we stand behind our work.
If your book arrives damaged, misprinted, or doesn't match the approved preview, we'll reprint or refund, no questions asked. Email us at hello@storybuilt.com with a photo of the issue and your order number.
Your child's photos are used solely to generate the illustrations for their book. We do not store them permanently, and we never share them.
Photos are processed to extract the character description (face shape, skin tone, hair, features), and the source images are deleted after generation. They are never used to train AI models, sold to third parties, or used for any purpose other than creating your book.
Privacy-first is not a marketing line for us — parents trusting us with photos of their children is something we take seriously.
The sweet spot is ages 4–7. The stories are perfectly paced for this range — long enough to hold attention, short enough to finish at bedtime. The vocabulary and adventures are tailored to be age-appropriate and emotionally engaging.
That said, parents of slightly younger (2–3) or older (8–9) children order regularly. The personalization still lands. We just optimize the default experience for 4–7.
It's one of the better gifts we've seen for birthdays, holidays, or any occasion that deserves something lasting. You're not giving a toy that breaks or gets forgotten. You're giving a book that has their face on every page.
We offer gift wrapping and a personalized dedication page — add a message from you, a grandparent, or whoever the gift is from. It's the kind of thing parents keep for decades. Many tell us their kids ask for it at every bedtime.
You can also send it directly to the recipient's address. Just enter their shipping address at checkout.
Upload a photo, tell us about them, and we'll show you what their book looks like before you pay a penny.
